How ashes jewellery is made
How is ashes jewellery made?
When placing an order for a special piece of jewellery containing your loved ones ashes, many question will run through your mind. We are as transparent as possible with how your piece is created and how to care for your piece once you receive it.
Sending your ashes to us
Once you've placed your order, we will send out an inclusion pack, with everything you need to return around a teaspoon of ashes to us.
Your pack will be prelabeled with your name and order number to avoid any confusion when returned.
When your inclusions have been received, your order will be checked and an email notification will be sent. The ashes and order will be securely fastened to each other so no confusion arises.
Creating your setting.
The first stage of the jewellery creation process is casting the setting. All of our jewellery designs are hand made to order, ensuring quality and accuracy rather than using mass produced methods.
This does take a little longer, but we believe quality should outweigh speed in such a precious piece.
Making your stone!
How your stone is made, depends on the material used. Glass and resin have different methods. Regardless of method used, we will follow some of the same steps.
1. First we will double check your order to ensure all the details are correct and understood.
2. Your jeweller will always read the notes (its our favourite part) learning about the person we are including in the stone. Any request such as a special piece of music, lighting a candle, or even a little chat about a favourite subject will be carried out.
Combining your ashes with Glass
The ashes you provide will be carefully spread onto our graphite work surface, a few pieces will be seperated and arranged to be added to the glass. Your chosen colour of glass rod will be heated until molten, shaped and pressed onto your ashes, embedding them securely. Additional glass is then cast on top, securing the ashes.
Once annealed, the glass will then be transferred to our faceting machine, where each facet it cut and polished to within 0.1mm of accuracy, giving the same finish and sparkle as a real gem stone.
Combining the Ashes with Resin
To create your stone we will firstly mix clear jewellers resin with your chosen colour choice. If you have requested for the ashes to be hidden we will also mix the ashes in at this point, so they are hidden within the colour.
Alternatively if you've requested the ashes to be visible, they will be arranged in to mould then the resin added on top, so your ashes are visible on a background of colour.
Once set the stone is removed from the mould and an additional layer of protective resin is added.
Once complete your stone will be set into your chosen design. Once set it will be tested for security in our ultra sonic machine, cleaned and polished to remove any residue from the creation process.
Your piece is now finished!
One final polish before it's beautifully packaged and returned to you via tracked/special delivery. Any remaining ashes will be returned with your special piece.
