How Breastmilk Jewellery is made
Sending your breastmilk to us
Once you've placed your order, we will send out an inclusion pack, with everything you need to return around 5 to 10 ml of milk.
Your pack will be prelabeled with your name and order number to avoid any confusion when returned.
When your inclusions have been received, your order will be checked and an email notification will be sent. The breastmilk and order will be securely fastened to each other so no confusion arises.
Your breastmilk will go through a rigorous preservation process ensuring all moisture and bacteria are removed.
Through a chemical process of heating, cooling and dehydrating, we will remove anything that may cause your milk to yellow, ensuring a lasting milky white finish. Our preservation method is time tested and unique to ourselves, we're proud of our process and the resulting preserved milk.
Creating your setting.
The first stage of the jewellery creation process is casting the setting, all our jewellery designs are hand made to order, ensuring quality and accuracy rather than using mass produced methods.
This does take a little longer, but we believe quality should outweigh speed in such a precious piece.
Making your stone!
How your stone is made depends on the material used. Glass and resin have different methods. Regardless of method used, we will follow some of the same steps.
1. First we will double check your order to ensure all the details are correct and understood.
2. Your jeweller will always read the notes, it's our favourite part -learning about your journey.
Combining your Breastmilk with Glass
The breast milk you provide will be combined with molten glass, fusing and capturing your milk in a cloud, swirling within the glass.
Once annealed, the glass will then be transferred to our faceting machine where each facet it cut and polished to within 0.1mm of accuracy, giving the same finish and sparkle as a real gem stone.
Combining your breast milk with resin.
To create our stones we use jewellers resin. A small portion of your milk will be mixed with clear resin to create your stone. The milk will add colour and depth to the resin naturally. We will then transfer the resin to our custom moulds to set.
Once removed from the mould a pop of colour can be added and a clear protective coat is applied to the stone.
Once complete your stone will be set into your chosen design. Once set it will be tested for security in our ultra sonic machine, cleaned and polished to remove any residue from the creation process.
Your piece is now finished!
One final polish before it's beautifully packaged and returned to you via tracked/special delivery. Remaining preserved breastmilk will be kept on file indefinitely in case you'd like another piece in the future.
